Debora Nina Cruz was born in the South Bronx, NY. Raised in Connecticut, Puerto Rico and Arizona. As a child, she
demonstrated a high skill level of realism in her drawings.
In 1987, living in Arizona, Cruz mentored under an art instructor
who introduced her to more sophisticated drawing and watercolor techniques. This lead to many awards in competition.
During this time, she studied light and negative space within
photography. Later, earning her Bachelors of Fine Arts from
Paier College of Art in Connecticut, in 1994. This marked her
admiration for the works of many of the impressionists of the
19th-century masters.
In 2001, her talents brought her the opportunity to reach a goal,
to illustrate a children's book. Two of them in fact. (Published
2003) Gearing her studies towards commercial art eventually
lead her to work in New York city with a large advertising agency.
This has solidified her calling to create, as she continues the
challenge of finding time and space for her works.
Currently living in the eastern part of the United States, Cruz
is embarking on a season of new works. Several series will be
up coming. She looks forward to this time where her creative
inclinations will not only be met, but will thrive.
