I’ve always known that creating is the truest part of who I am called to be.
I have no pretense. (That became very clear to me as I tried to write a fabulous
artist statement.) I’m greatly fulfilled by creating. My aim is to create impacting
works of art that will inspire the human spirit. Works that reach the best part of
the human soul whenever possible.
I begin with an image in my mind. It comes to me very unexpectedly. Many of
my preliminary sketches are on whatever I can get my hands on at the moment,
including napkins. I don’t have a formula of what’s done before I go to canvas. It
varies. Sometimes I feel a ‘values’ sketch is necessary, other times not. At times
I’ll make a secondary detail sketch, sometimes not.
As I sketch, I already know what medium it’s to be in. Its size is also known to me
early on. Much of my work is done in the building of layers and is quite detailed. My
hope is that my work will go beyond beauty. That it will empower positive change
within people.
